About Go There Do That

We are Ethan (left) and Heather (right). Go There Do That is more about what’s around us than us really. But here’s our story if you’re interested.

To understand our story, it’s important to know that we are two parts to a whole. Ethan is a train that is constantly moving forward. His ambition, creativity, and passion drive us forward. But what’s a train without tracks? Heather is the tracks. She carefully lays them down as Ethan pushes forward, making sure they can actually reach their destination. We are so different, but one of the strongest bonds we have between us is our love for nature which is probably how we found ourselves here.

Ethan is the photographer and award-winning videographer of Go There Do That. He carries 50+ lbs of camera gear with him everywhere we go. He’ll never forget to bring his trusty bucket hat, but he might forget his toothbrush. He’s up for any adventure at the drop of a hat, and he pours his heart and soul into making beautifully artistic videos that capture moments as we remember them.

Heather is the planner and organizer of Go There Do That. She takes a lot more convincing to go on an adventure but once she’s there, she’s all in. She makes sure that everyone has a toothbrush and literally anything else they would ever need to travel. She makes the experiences happen and sets everything up to be able to capture magnificent moments.

We met and began dating in college. In 2018, we got married, moved away, and both got our first stable, full time jobs. We were finally “adults,” but we didn’t really know what to do with that. We spent a lot of weekends on our couch doing a whole lot of nothing because we didn’t know what else to do. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it just didn’t feel right for us. We knew we didn’t feel “good” but didn’t really know what we needed.

On a trip back home, a few things lined up for us to finally realize that we needed to be spending our time on something more meaningful to us; exploring. We started by just finding places to go hiking nearby, but we wanted to venture out a bit further too. We decided to start planning a trip that wasn’t just visiting another end of Texas (although yes, that is a feat in itself). We threw around a few ideas but landed on Alaska. It was just as incredible and beautiful as we ever could have imagined. After that trip, something in us changed. It felt impossible to go back to what we called “vegetable weekends.”

We started planning more trips! We started planning a road trip to Yellowstone, and we were going to visit Washington DC during the cherry blossom season for our anniversary in March 2020. Then Covid happened. Things could have been way worse for us, but we still felt a little lost having to cancel trip after trip. These experiences that we felt so passionate about and got so much fulfillment from were essentially not an option. I guess with the craziness of the world, we forgot how much just the hiking trips nearby had done for us before. About 5 months, 2 canceled trips, and a whole lot of sad “vegetable weekends” later, Ethan came home with an idea: Go There Do That.

We couldn’t go on any “big” trips, but we could start tent camping at any State Park in Texas. He could make videos about it, and we could both take photos. Maybe it would turn into something, and maybe we would just get to go camping. Not a bad deal either way. The idea felt like a life raft. We went into train/track mode quickly and started making plans to camp every weekend. We didn’t have any gear besides a borrowed tent, but we could figure it out as we went along. And we did.

Soon after we started camping, we remembered that making experiences for ourselves could happen anywhere. It could happen in Alaska, it could happen in a State Park, it could happen just a few miles down the road. It didn’t matter where we were going, but we needed to go.

Today, Go There Do That is a call to action for us. We are going to go there, so we might as well bring some cameras with us. We’ll take photos along the way for ourselves and to share with others. We’ll create videos to relive the moments and to showcase the magnificent sights we’ve seen. We’ll write about our experiences to keep them fresh on our minds and to entertain and maybe even help people. This is a creative outlet and a breath of fresh air for us. We hope it inspires other people to start knocking things off their bucket lists. And if it doesn’t inspire anybody at all, we are still having the best time while we Go There Do That.
